TRYSILFJELLET, NORWAY

Trysil Resort Comprehensive Master Planning

SUMMARY

Trysilfjellet Resort is one of Norway’s most prominent mountain resort getaways. With 6 chairlifts, including four detachable six person lifts, 17 surface lifts, 9 children’s lifts, 65 alpine ski trails, 100 km of nordic ski trails and 4 base villages, Trysifjellet is noted as Norway’s largest ski resort.

Mountainworks (International Alpine Design) has been master planning the ski area and base villages at Trysil for over 10 years. During this time, Mountainworks has designed and coordinated the implementation of multiple new lifts, a children’s training center expansion, new trails and mountain facilities. Mountainworks has also integrated design plans for multiple residential ski in / ski out neighborhoods and integration of the new, 1,000+ bed Radisson Blu hotel and Park Inn Trysil Mountain Resort Hotel. Current planning efforts are being made to connect the local town of Trysil to the resort through a gondola installation designed by Mountainworks. Additional site plans are being created for multiple base area expansions including hotels, apartments and ski in/ski out cabins, as well as coordinated approval of several thousand new beds around the resort.

RESULTS

  • Installation of 4 new lifts and approximately 200 hectares of new piste development.
  • Integrated design and site planning for two 1,000 + bed ski in / ski out hotel developments.
  • Kommune and town planning for the integration and regulation of bed based development balanced to ski area growth.
  • Design and implementation oversight for intermediate - gladed piste development (Vie Hammer Skogen) similar to Mountainworks designs of Blue Sky Basin at Vail and Prospect Basin at Telluride.  This area at Trysil is the first of its kind in Scandinavia.
